1. "Little Potato" by Malcolm
Dalgish
“Welcoming Children into the World”
Music Memory of Ben
The first song that came to
mind for me was called “Little Potato” . I reminded me of the music we
used to listen to in the car when we were driving places.
(Dad Note:
I liked this CD so I made sure it was played often.) |

"Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin
The Complete Led Zeppelin
Music Memory of Aunt Nancy
I have many music memories, but one that comes to mind right away is
“Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin. It reminds me of the first
time I danced a slow song with a boy. We were in 7th grade. He was
shorter than I was and I leaned on him too much. I think we fell. I
remember that it was embarrassing but it is also a fond memory of
starting to dance with boys.
(NOTE: Picture from 10/2001 is not of Aunt Nancy and her
first dance partner.) |

“Cecelia” by Simon & Garfunkel
“Bridge Over Troubled Waters”
Music Memory of Auntie Patty
The song “Cecilia” by Simon & Garfunkel always reminds me of being
in 4th grade in the Talent Show at Holy Family, in the gym. Ask your
mom what my talent was. (Tumbler extraordinaire.)

“Lemon Tree” by Peter, Paul & Mary
“Peter, Paul & Mary”
Music Memory of Dad
My family’s first stereo looked like a piece of furniture. It was
made of wood and the top slid back to reveal a record player. A few
notes of “Lemon Tree” by Peter, Paul & Mary and I am immediately
transported back to those days in the early 1970’s when my Dad would
put that Album on. |

“More Than Words” by Extreme
“Best of Extreme”
Music Memory of Dad’s Cousin Gretchen
Unfortunately, I can't tell you who sings
this song I think the song is called "More than words". (Band is
“Extreme”.) It probably was released in about 1991. Why I remember
it is that I was pregnant with Kyle and very nauseated and that song
came on the radio. I now associate that song with feeling sick to my
stomach and can't listen to it (and it is actually a good song).

“God Bless America” by Kate Smith
“The Best of Kate Smith”
Music Memory of our friend Kris in CT
I had a friend growing named Sarah. She had a recording of Kate
Smith singing Irving Berlin's "God Bless America" and we fell in
love with that record. We played it at top volume every chance we
got, sang it on our own and generally wore it out for the
neighborhood. We over did it so much that someone broke the record
too make us stop. To this day, whenever I hear Kate Smith's version
of "God Bless America" I get chills. |

7. “It’s a Wonderful Word” by Louis Armstrong
“What a Wonderful World”
Music Memory of Mary Ann, a family friend from Colorado
One of my favorite songs is, “It's a Wonderful
World”, because it's message always reminded me of my father and the
way he viewed life. |

“Craklin
Rosie” by Neil Diamond
“A Neil Diamond Collection”
Music Memory Grandma Sharon
There is a song that brings back a memory every time I hear it. The
song, "Cracklin Rosie" by Neil Diamond. When your mother was a
junior in high school and trying out for the pom pom squad, she
practiced her routine to this song for try outs. She practiced and
practiced. We heard the song many times. Did she make the cut? Yes,
she did. Whenever I hear that song, I think about her!!!! |

“Ava Maria” by Joshua Bell
“Voice of the Violin”
Music Memory Grandpa Bob
One memory is my dad playing "Ava Maria" on the violin. This was at
a Christmas program at the Christian Missionary Alliance church
across the street from where we lived in Hubbard, MN. I was probably
nine years old at the time and what seems strange to me now is that
I have no idea where, when or how he learned to play the violin. I
do not remember him playing at any other event or even practicing
although he surely did. |

“You wore a Tulip” by Bing Crosby
“Voice of the Violin”
Music Memory from Mom’s Aunt Eleanor
I have 2 songs which I know you have never heard in fact your
parents probably haven't. My Mother always sang “O Where have you
been Billy Boy Billy Boy Billy Boy” and my father would sing when
“You Wore A Tulip and I wore a big Red Rose”. When I think of those
songs I always smile as those were happy times when they were
singing. |

“Live and Let Die” by Paul McCartney
“The Best of James Bond”
Music Memory from Uncle Rodney
The first music memory that came to mind was from my first girl
friend in high school. On our first date we saw a very forgettable
James Bond movie “Live and Let Die”, with the theme song by Paul
McCartney. Months after that first date, driving together in my car,
she stopped me mid sentence to say “turn up the radio, they are
playing our song.” Our song? When I heard and recognized that she
was referring to “Live and Let Die” my first, and silent thought
was—time for a new girl friend. |

“Close to You” by The Carpenters
“Love Songs”
Music Memory from Mom
The other day at work I heard the song "Close to you" by the
Carpenters - although it was an annoying Musak version, it did make
me remember being at the Busy Bee Cafe in downtown Peoria with my
Mom and sister. It was the day after Thanksgiving and we had gone to
see the Santa Clause Parade. After the parade we stopped for hot
chocolate at the Busy Bee and I remember that song playing. It is a
happy memory. |

“Jingle
Bells” by ?
“Christmas Encore”
music memory from Dad’s cousin Gretchen:
Jingle Bells always makes me smile because my mom always sang that
to both of my kids (she said it was the only song she could think of
off the top of her head). If Kyle would get fussy, we would sing
Jingle Bells and he would put his thumb in his mouth and settle
down. |

“Is
This Love” by Bob Marley
“Legend”
music memory from Mom:
When I hear "Is this Love?" by Bob Marley I remember when your Dad
and I were first dating and he would goofily sing along with it.
(Dad Note: I consider this 'our song'.) |

“Getting
Up Early” by Tom Paxton
“Wearing the Time”
music memory for more than one person:
“Getting Up Early” by Tom Paxton reminds them of Grandpa Ron. The
song was played at his funeral. |

“Dreamland”
by Mary-Chapin Carpenter
“Til Their Eyes Shine”
music memory from Mom:
A favorite memory is singing "Dreamland" and
dancing around the kitchen with you when you were a baby. |
